Aquaman and Aqualad are among some of my favorite characters from DC comics. I've recently read some of their silver age stories in "Showcase Presents: Aquaman" and got such a kick out of Arthur and Garth's campy aquatic adventures! I love marine animals and have always liked the connection Aquaman had with them.
I'm really glad that Aquaman is a part of the current "Brightest Day" story line from DC, and he's a big part of the reason I'm collecting it. I just wish Garth was still around... (Damn you Black Lanterns!!!)
This project took me quite a while. I drew each element separately and then placed them together in Photoshop and colored and shaded them myself. I drew the scales on Aquaman's shirt by themselves and then added them in as a separate layer. That way I was able to colorize them much easier. I also experimented using a tablet and stylus to blend some of the colors together.
Aquaman is awesome and your artwork is spectacular.
You read Showcase Presents: Aquaman #1 yes? What did you think of "The Secret Of The Super-Safe" (Adventure Comics #265, 1959)? Am I wrong to think it was one of the best Aquaman stories ever? If I could make a "Greatest Aquaman Stories Ever Told" collection there would be two stories in it, guaranteed. That one. And "King Of The Convict Island" from More Fun Comics #82 (1942).
Thank you so much! Yes, I have all three volumes of Showcase Presents: Aquaman! The "Super Safe" story was very fun, indeed. I especially enjoyed reading the later stories with Ocean Master and Black Manta. It was very cool getting to read the introduction of Aqualad, Mera & Tula. I'm looking forward to the upcoming ongoing Aquaman series coming out later this year!
