Boyfriends At The Beach

This image turned out to be a lot of fun for the both of us to work on! I did the sketch last April with the intention of entering it in the 2010 Albuquerque Pride art show. But at the time, Russ and I had so much other art stuff going on, that this one got put on the back burner.

Earlier this week I looked at the sketch again and decided to practice some coloring techniques on it. I started with the "cel shading" style that we traditionally use, and then I added in some soft airbrushing here and there to give it more color.

After that, I handed it over to Russell and he brought the background to life and added in some great lighting effects. (I love the way he colored the ocean, it looks so inviting!) His touch gave it the final polish that it needed.

I'm very pleased with how this turned out. It has a vibrant energy to it that is just... fun! I kind of looks like it could be in a magazine ad for a vacation get-away.
