Star Sapphire - Male by Boy-Meets-Hero Star Sapphire - Male by Boy-Meets-Hero
I've been reading Green Lantern from DC comics for quite a few years now. I really love the current idea of having Lantern Corps that represent different colors and emotional spectrums. Each color of the spectrum now has it's own Lantern Corps.

I noticed that each Corps is made up of both men and women, except for the Violet Lanterns, the Star Sapphires. The qualification to become a member requires one to have "great love in their heart". This particular Corps is commanded by the all-female race of the Zamarons and I guess they want to keep their team male-free.

I think that men are just as capable as women to have "great love in their hearts", so I created some fan art to illustrate just that! Here is my idea for a male Star Sapphire! I adapted Carol Ferris' costume, (the Star Sapphire of Earth), to come up with my character. Maybe the Zamarons will bend their policy once they see him!... lol Please enjoy!

Too bad DC did not use Kyle's friend Terry Berg to be the male Star Sapphire.  He would have make a great Lantern!

Very interesting! According to the story, the Star Sapphires were created by the Zamorans, the estranged wives of the Guardians of the Universe--yes the same Guardians who created the Green Lanters. They left in part because the men were embracing an emotionless philosophy--the Green Lanern rings created by the Guardians are in fact powered by will power which is not a true emotion.

Its the usual spat that women are emotional and men are logical. Writer Geoff Johns, creator of the Corps says that most men just aren't worthy, that they don't have enough love in their hearts. Now I like a pretty girl as much as the next guy and I am willing to read a Star Sapphire story just to look at those very lovely ladies... but yes it is rather sexist to think that men are so incapable of love that their prescence in this Corps is negligible!

Machismo dictates that a man can have no feelings beyond anger. If he does have feelings like love, he is not a real man and is a threat to established norms of masculinity. C'mon, just have a guy in a manly uniform and say that he loves God, country, and family and he could make a great Star Sapphire!

Will we see a male Star Sapphire? Only God knows but as the Blue Lanters say, "When all seems lost in the War of Light, look to the stars for hope burns bright!"

Thank you for your very thoughtful comment. DC should include some men in the Star Sapphires. They don't have to dress skimpy, just let Johns show us that men can feel love, too!

It IS horribly sexist to say "most men are not worthy" to wield a Violet Ring. In fact, it's just downright insulting. DC seriously needs to rethink things on that matter because I've known men who've shown such powerful love, even moreso than some women I've known. It's just irritating that society sees men as only meant for strength, destruction and power, when they have a great capacity for love, something that needs to be recognized. Logic does NOT mean heartless or emotionless, nor does it mean feeling "less" emotions, it just means being able to control your emotions to better analyze and dictate outcomes and effects of situations. I wholeheartedly agree with you Hero, DC needs male Star Sapphires and MORE than just one.

I agree completely! Thank you for your thoughtful comment. DC should include some males in the Star Sapphire Corps. They don't necessarily need to dress skimpy like this, but they need to be represented!!! The current Starman (Mikaal Tomas) in recent issues of Justice League could be one! Or even Robin (Tim Drake), he has great love. I remember seeing him give Superboy a great big hug when he came back from the dead! The real truth is that DC is simply more interested in the Star Sapphires being scantly clad women with huge breasts... The whole "most men aren't worth" is b.s.

I don't know if I'd call aliens "women" just because they're mammals. I would say it'd be suspect if male Sapphires got a pass on the skimpy wear. Yes, I know DC isn't going have male characters running around dressed like Papillon from Buso Renkin- I'm guessing that's why we haven't seen any aside yet from the Predator.

I love how it looks!, I think you did a great job in the chest. I would love to see a male Star Sapphire, well, aside from the Predator, but he doesn't really counts, does he?, Aga'po just needs to loose it up a bit and we'll have hunky guys flying in violet suits just like this one 8P <3

The girl's suits are very skimpy, if they make male SS I would be very dissapointed if they had a heavyarmor or something like that, I expect exposed chests <333

Nice job on this. I love that you have the 90s super-muscled comic book hero look down for this. And hell yes for a male Star Sapphire wearing as little clothing as the ladies.

In case you didn't know, your art here was linked by CBR: [link]

Thank you! I'm glad you like my version. All I did was adapt Carol Ferris' costume and tweaked it slightly for this hunk. I was curious to see what a man would look like if he wore a suit similar to the ladies...

And thank you for the link to CBR. I had no idea they referenced my illustration. That's cool!

I found your art searching for "male star sapphire" because DC announced him in the new solits for Green Lantern #57, and he's dressed from head to toe. I must say, I seriously like your design much better.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like my version better! Thanks also for letting me know that there's going to be a male Star Sapphire. I looked it up online and I guess DC is using the Predator character from the '80s. I don't know anything about him other than he was associated with Star Sapphire back then. I'm curious how he'll be handled now.

FYI anyone can join the SSCorp, it's just that some man are not worthy. from Wiki "At present, members of the Star Sapphires have only been depicted as being female. During the Blackest Night panel at Comic Con International 2009, Geoff Johns explained that: "anyone can join, but most men are not worthy."

PS good work on your male SS

I think that maybe it's the fact that women seem to show love a lot more than men, and tend to have deeper connections to even people they may only consider as freinds. Also the mother aspect that seems to be in most women would also strenghten the belief that women are capable of great love.

Interesting and also very true. Women do show a lot more affection than some men. Having said that, I'm a man capable of great love. I've known other men (gay and straight) who are also capable. I just think it's sexist to exclude ALL men because DC thinks that Star Sapphires need to be "hot chicks".
